Facebook Inc. said it removed 1.5 million videos of the New Zealand mosque within 24 hours of the attack.

"In the first 24 hours, we removed 1.5 million videos of the attack in the world, of which more than 1.2 million were blocked during the upload …", said Facebook in a bit.ly/2HDJtPM tweet late Saturday.

The company also announced that it was removing all edited versions of the video that did not present graphic content out of respect for those affected by the shootings at the mosque and for the concerns of the local authorities.

The death toll in the shootings in the New Zealand mosque rose to 50 on Sunday. The gunman who attacked two mosques Friday broadcast live attacks on Facebook for 17 minutes using an application designed for extreme sports enthusiasts, the copies are still shared on social networks a few hours later.

New Zealand premier Jacinda Ardern said she wants to discuss live streaming with Facebook.
