Facebook would apparently work to link Messenger messaging, WhatsApp and Instagram to one unified platform, but do not expect this system to be operational soon: CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the project – "- n & # 39, would probably not appear before 2020 and beyond.
"The integration we think of brings us very early into this thinking," Zuckerberg said during the company's fourth quarter earnings call. "We still have a lot to understand."
Although Mr. Zuckerberg does not provide too much detail on the current plan allowing users of Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp to communicate, he did explain in detail why the company was pursuing him.
As The New York Times Previously, end-to-end encryption played an important role and Facebook wanted secure messaging to be consistent across all three platforms. "I think that's the direction in which we should go with more things in the future."
Zuckerberg also provided some examples of why users wanted a combined service, highlighting the tricky cases in which a person could use the market feature on Facebook, but then had to switch to WhatsApp for messaging. He also pointed out the possibility that Messenger – and the WhatsApp / Instagram combined system – could serve as an iMessage-like layer for SMS with more features and security.
