An audit of technical university staff conducted by the National Council of Higher Education (NCTE) revealed anomalies in the educational and administrative procedures of institutions.
The audit was conducted to facilitate the effective migration of university staff to the Single Column Air Structure (SSSS).
The report, dated December 21, 2018, a copy of which is available to the Daily Graphic, revealed, for example, that most lecturers, especially those at business schools, were teaching without foundation, some PhDs in Philosophy (PhD) degrees acquired online, which contravenes NCTE regulations
"Some speakers have either an actor in Business Administration (BA) from the Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica, or Decorate in Finance from the Swiss Management Center (SMC) and the University of Central Nicaragua. These are non-research PhDs and are not acceptable for teaching.
"Some professors have also obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Central Nicaragua on the basis of a DBA issued by the MSC.This arrangement for the awarding of a Ph.D. is not acceptable and such qualifications should not be accepted. " sanctioned to teach too, "said the report.
He further indicated that some lecturers were coming up with incompatible first, second and last degrees, referring to a "skirt and blouse", a practice that the NCTE found unacceptable.
He made it clear that teachers with master's degrees and doctorates acquired online should not be recognized and that the teachers concerned should return to school to acquire the relevant degrees prior to their migration to the SSSS.
The report further stated that only lecturers with relevant training should teach in their areas of specialization.
Minister of Education
Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, accompanied the report with a well-articulated letter, noting that only teachers with master's degrees and graduation degrees from recognized universities, local or foreign, would be transferred to the scale of traditional university salaries.
Unqualified speakers, however, had up to two or three years to perfect their skills before they could migrate to the university salary range.
Administrative staff
The audit report also contains anomalies in the administrative procedures.
For example, he stated that senior managers in the professional category (accountants, auditors, works and physical development) were, in accordance with the former statutes of the polytechnic and current technical university schools, reiterated to be appointed holders of a master's degree. and relevant professional badociation.
