It's a troubling week for fans of Coronation Street after losing three huge characters very quickly.
Faye Brookes first revealed that she was leaving her role as Kate Connor, then Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker, a cancer, explained that she had chosen to leave, and then Lucy Fallon revealed her decision not to renew his Bethany Platt contract.
Tristan Gemmill and Kym Marsh had also announced their decision to leave Robert Preston and Michelle Connor. Bhavna Limbachia left her role as Rana Habeeb last month.
Some speculated that their decisions had been influenced by heavy workload and filming schedules, but Faye and Lucy have since explained the reasons for their departure.
Lucy, who has been playing at Bethany since 2015, will be leaving at the end of her contract in 2020.
She wrote on Twitter that the decision was difficult to make.
"Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made last August and has nothing to do with anyone from Coronation Street," she said. "I did not go lightly and I will miss all those present, excited for my last year in the best place!" Woo (sic).
She added that the decision to announce her departure now had been withdrawn.
"I would have liked to have the chance to announce it in my day lol … However, after the most incredible 4 years, I made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020, "she told her fans.
"It's hard to say how much this show is for me. I made long-time friends with some of the most talented and hardworking men in the industry, had terrible and extremely important intrigues and laughed with the best. I am so grateful to Iain and to all of Coronation Street that I owe them everything and will miss them so much. Thank you very much for your support and your love … I can not wait to see what awaits Bethany this year. (Sic). "
Faye has confused the fans with her shocking decision, having said in an interview barely a month earlier that she was "going nowhere."
Sources close to Kate have also confirmed the theories of some fans that she will leave to focus on her upcoming wedding with Gareth Gates.
An insider told The Sun Online: "Kate loved every minute of" Corrie "but she is totally dedicated to Gareth and the success of their marriage.
"She almost lost it once when they broke up, so she's determined to make it work this time around, but it's really hard with her schedule and her academy."
They added: "They are also looking to the future and are starting a family, which would be tricky when it is still in the series".
Crucially, in her announcement, Faye made it clear that her character was heading for a "break" and that this might not be a permanent release.
She wrote, "Thanks to everyone for your incredible support, but after 4 fabulous years at Weatherfield, it's time for me to explore new opportunities. I loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a little break, so with a song. in my heart I go to new pastures. (Sic). "
Fingers crossed, this is the last of our favorites that leaves for the moment!
