A leaked letter revealed the plans of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council and its Regional Security Liaison Officer to recruit and train New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists for the 2020 elections.

The leaked letter, sent to the district presidents of the region, said the activists, known as the "Election Security Team", should notably monitor the next voter registration campaign and the Urn guards during the elections.

The letter, signed by the Regional Security Liaison Officer, Captain Simon Ansu Tengabo (Rtd), was also forwarded to the Regional President of the NPP, Upper West Region, to Regional Minister, Alhbadaan Suleman , and to all the chiefs of the municipality and district of the Upper West. Region.

"We are grateful to you for submitting a list of security-conscious members of your party that could be trained as an election security team, to closely monitor the 2020 elections, the reopening of the register of electors until the election and until the declaration of the results ", Capt. Tengabo noted.

According to the regional liaison officer, the list must include a party leader in the region and ten others.

"After their training / orientation, the teams will also select and train the polling station security team to cover all polling stations in your area.

"Please carefully select and submit your list of districts / municipalities to the Regional Security Liaison Officer, Regional Coordination Council, Wa, Western West Region," also notes the letter.

The demand to recruit and train NPP militants for security comes shortly after the shooting incident at Ayawaso West Wuogon and a government-sponsored security retreat.

At least 13 people were injured in the shooting that led to the formation of an investigative commission.

The commission, chaired by the former president of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Emile Short, is expected to be heard soon by the public.
