Families of deceased people need assurances of justice – Chief Imam

The National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has said he expects the three-member commission of inquiry set up to investigate the unrest in Ejura in the Ashanti region to conduct its diligent investigations.

He says bereaved families need comfort and assurances that the justice they seek will be served.

Sheikh Osman Sharubutu made the statement when he visited Ejura in the Ashanti region to sympathize with the families bereaved from the recent military shooting and urged them to remain calm while awaiting the outcome of the committee’s work.

“We shouldn’t lose our lives like this. We lost the first life, and then in trying to fix it, we lost two more lives. It’s too much for us to contain, and the loss has affected people, it has created a void in some people’s lives… We need the people around them to empathize with them, show empathy and care. give assurances and this is the basis for the chief imam’s visit, ”said spokesman for the chief imam, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu.

He added that the chief imam was pleased with the efforts to seek justice for the affected families and hoped the truth would be made public.

“We are pleased that a committee has been put in place to investigate and unravel the full context of the matter and the truth must come out and also, more importantly, deliver justice where justice is needed,” he added. .

The chief imam joined the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who also showed compassion to the families and promised that a full investigation would be carried out.

What happened to Ejura?

Ibrahim Muhammed, aka Kaaka, died on Monday, June 28, 2021 after being assaulted by a mob as he returned home on a motorcycle on Sunday in Ejura in the Sekyedumase district of the Ashanti region.

He was reportedly killed for his social activism, which some claimed made the government unpopular.

His family said he was threatened for his activism before the attack.

After his burial, some residents of Ejura started demonstrating in the streets but were confronted by police and armed soldiers, resulting in the deaths of two people who were allegedly shot dead by soldiers.

Police say the protesters became rowdy and were throwing stones at security personnel.
