37 Military hospital was sued

Military Hospital 37 has been hit with a GH ¢ 2 million lawsuit for medical negligence in treating a patient named Solomon Asare-Kumah.
The family of the 48-year-old man who died in hospital after surgery allege that hospital officials failed to follow due process in treating their deceased family member.
They allege, among other things, that hospital health officials wrongly inserted a faulty oxygen tube and drill bit into Asare-Kumah during the operation.
In a subpoena, the family also mentioned that Asare-Kumah’s death caused them emotional and mental stress.
The family is asking the court to award them more than 2 million GHC in damages against the 37th military hospital.
UK-based Ghanaian Asare-Kumah visited the country in 2019 and fell ill.
She was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor which required immediate surgery to be removed.
The family is cited by Myjoyonline for mentioning the name of a Colonel Appiah as the one who recommended immediate surgery.
However, the emergency operation was repeatedly postponed with all kinds of excuses offered by the hospital.
“At one point he took my brother to the theater, he was given anesthesia and everything. After four or five hours, the surgeon brought him back to the ward that he could not do the operation… Another time, the operation could not take place, he postponed it again. on the pretext that the drill he was going to use was not working. So he was going to buy another one in South Africa, ”said the deceased’s brother, Emmanuel.
He recounted that his brother was then transferred to Korle Bu University Hospital for the inferior vein-vein procedure, after which he was referred to 37 Military Hospital for surgery.
He said that after the operation his brother swelled up like a balloon and that “if you touched him he felt so soft like rubber. I had to calm down because I was so angry.
Unfortunately for the family, Asare-Kumah died twenty-four hours after the operation.
