Mark Harmon is the face of NCIS and the actor behind our dear agent Gibbs. From resistance to vulnerability to insist that his vital "rules" remain respected, Agent Gibbs is private in nature, but caring and compbadionate. Thus, the character has not only found his way, but has deep rooted in our hearts.
Although a lot NCIS the stars have come and gone – Michael Weatherly, Côte de Pablo and Pauley Perrette – Harmon remains firmly committed to the show, responsible for its long-standing success and worldwide recognition.
Over the past sixteen seasons, we have seen Mark Harmon's Gibbs develop a father-daughter bond with Ziva, a mentor-mentee relationship with Tony DiNozzo, and a protective dynamic with Abby. Mark Harmon managed to lead the series, in a narrative and backstage way as an executive producer, in a fairly transparent way. However, it is not without its faults.
Although Mark Harmon may be the best Gibbs agent we can imagine, a decision he makes in the role annoys fans a lot, and that's how he's addressing other cast members.
Many 'NCIS' fans do not like Mark Harmon's Gibbs calls Ziva "Ziver"
In some scenes, as he did when Ziva from Cote de Pablo came back in the last moments of season 16, Mark Harmon will call Ziva "Ziver". If you are wondering how this decision was made, Christopher J. Walid – one of the writers behind NCIS – once explained:
"" Ziver "started with Mark Harmon. We sometimes write it now. Not a lot. Gibbs uses it as he pleases. "
In summary, Ziver is a pet that Gibbs uses whenever he wants – when the time seems right. It is not surprising then that he chose to use this name when Ziva returned, with Harmon likely considering that he was telling the audience that Gibbs still had warm and compbadionate feelings toward his former agent. However, some fans simply do not care. A NCIS amateur noted:
"@ChrisWaild #Ziver just seems to say that he pronounces his name badly. This does not look like a pet or other name. It makes me cringe.
If you talk to Reddit, there is a whole forum called "a useless thing that bothers me a lot" and discusses Mark Harmon's tendency to call Ziva "Ziver". While some understand the reasoning and see it as a term of love, it feels weird. A Reddit user explained:
"Then ncis. I see him again for the 343275 + th time … Someone he noticed that Gibbs sometimes says Ziva and sometimes Ziverr … It's just something that pushes me against the wall "

Others reacted to discuss the choice and a Reddit user explained that the decision was both "stupid" and "boring".[ing]. While others are not embarrbaded, most fans do not seem to like the nickname, so perhaps Mark Harmon should stop using it. Since Mark Harmon is unlikely to come across this opinion, those who do not support this choice should find comfort knowing that the name "Ziver" is used sparingly.
