There are only three weeks remaining in the Premier League season and there is still plenty to do at both ends of the table.
Manchester City came back to the top with a win over its Manchester United neighbors Wednesday, though Liverpool is only one point behind.
Meanwhile, Cardiff currently occupies the last place of relegation but only three points separate them and Brighton, 17th.
While normal service resumes after a week of endless play, we try to provide solutions to the dilemmas that occupy the minds of football officials.
The Reds are going
Liverpool shows no signs of slowing down in its quest for a first title since 1990.
City's win over United in the Manchester derby was a blow, but Jurgen Klopp's team is only one point from the championship leaders and has won its last nine games, in all competitions.
One can argue that their course is easier than their rivals, starting with Huddersfield Town at Anfield – a game that will not fail to dream fantasy managers at the prospect of rich rewards.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with the Terriers – their last defeat in November 1959.
Huddersfield, who is already relegated, has not scored any of his last eight clashes with Liverpool. So, if you have not already done so, it might be time to sign one or two Klopp supporters.
Virgil van Dijk is sure to start in the middle, but will Joe Gomez come back to his side after finally recovering from his injury? If this is the case, it could be a cheaper option for some of the other high-level advocates available.
On the other hand, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will pose a goal threat, as usual, but Sadio Mane may well be the wisest choice for your fantastic team considering his recent record.
Mane has scored nine goals in his last eight Premier League home games after scoring just five in his first nine games at Anfield this season.
Bluebirds in demand
The Premier League could go without a Welsh team for the first time since the 2010-11 season, while Cardiff remains in last-place relegation to three games of the end.
The defeat against Liverpool last time seemed likely, but they will be encouraged by the last Tottenham winner against Brighton, who has only three points more than the Bluebirds.
Cardiff need points and with Fulham, already relegated, his opponents this weekend – and Brighton at home against Newcastle – they must surely try to win.
The Cottagers have won their last two games, but Neil Warnock's team has won all three Premier League matches with Fulham.
At the back, Sean Morrison could be a good choice, while Victor Camarasa and Junior Hoilett could be a good choice to send them back to this well-deserved victory.
Be careful though to Fulham, especially with these two wins, the first time he's won two consecutive league matches this season. Tom Cairney, Ryan Babel and Aleksandar Mitrovic are worthy of note.
Aubameyang worth it to play?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed Arsenal's disappointing defeat against the Wolves after undergoing a small sinus procedure.
The Gunners hope the striker will be able to play Leicester on Sunday, but Unai Emery could not confirm his availability.
It would be a risk to include it in your fantasy team, but that being said, the Gabonese international loves to face the Foxes.
He is not only the top scorer in the Premier League, alongside Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero, but has also struck three times in two league games against Leicester.
It's an average of one goal every 40 minutes against the Foxes. Leave it at your own risk.
Top scorer in the Premier League (2018-19) | |
---|---|
Player | goals |
Pierre Emerick-Aubemeyang | 19 |
Sergio Aguero | 19 |
Mohamed Salah | 19 |
Sadio Mane | 18 |
Raheem Sterling | 17 |
Harry Kane | 17 |
As cool as ice cream
Gylfi Sigurdsson separated Manchester United from last weekend; the Icelandic midfielder is getting stronger and stronger.
He scored one and helped another as Everton beat Manchester United 4-0 last Sunday. He likes to play against his next opponent, Crystal Palace.
Sigurdsson has been involved in seven league goals against Crystal Palace (scoring three goals and four badistants).
Everton is undefeated in his last seven Premier League trips to Crystal Palace (W4 D3), with his last loss to them at Selhurst Park in October 1994.
All the signs suggest a victory to Everton, with Sigurdsson at the heart of it.
Can City make a hat-trick of 5-0?
This will not surprise anyone, but Sergio Aguero remains a prime candidate for everything that is fantastic. His record against Sunday's opponents, Burnley, makes an interesting reading: eight goals in his last seven meetings with the Clarets in all competitions.
Given the situation in the title race, you can not see Pep Guardiola decide to give a break to his main striker anytime between now and the end of the season.
So, you'd better stay with the main men – Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva et al. With Fernandinho knocking at Old Trafford, Ilkay Gundogan is probably starting. And will the absence of Kevin de Bruyne give Phil Foden a new chance to shine?
City has beaten Burnley 5-0 twice this season in all competitions. It might be a little too far to imagine that this will happen again (no team has ever scored five goals or more against three others in a season in the history of the English league), you can not exclude it completely.
If you really want to take a huge risk on a Burnley striker, Chris Wood has scored five goals in his last three Premier League games.
