Collins Dorman, a 30-year-old farmer, was stabbed to death with a knife in Atechem, a suburb of Dunkwa-on-offin in the municipality of Upper Denkyira East in the Central Region.

The sordid act was allegedly committed by a certain Isaac Owusu Boateng, a member of the staff of the community police (CPP) in the early hours of Monday February 15, 2021 in Dorman’s house.

The suspect allegedly committed the act after a brief misunderstanding between two tenants over sharing the electric bill exploded.

Chief Superintendent Ferguson Dzeneku, the Dunkwa division commander, confirmed the incident and the suspect’s arrest to the Ghana News Agency, but did not give details.

However, Ms. Yaa Safoa, the mother of the deceased who witnessed the atrocious act, said the suspect stabbed the deceased without any provocation.

“I saw the two words exchange over a disagreement over an unpaid electricity bill but Boateng suddenly stabbed my son in the chest and neck to death,” said the devastated mother.

According to her, there were problems with non-payment of electricity bills between the two, but they were settled at the police station where the deceased was distributed GH 100.00 ₵ to be paid.

Based on the agreement, the suspect paid GH ₵ 50.00 immediately, but later the deceased disagreed on the amount paid by the suspect, which resulted in another misunderstanding.

In the heat of the exchanges, the deceased left to buy food in town and when he arrived at the entrance of his house, the suspect stabbed the deceased in the presence of his mother who cried for help.

Local people quickly took him to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sensing the danger of the young person who wanted to pounce on him, the suspect locked himself in his room and informed the police of his scandalous act.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of the police prevented the suspect from being lynched as the youths burned tires in protest against the heinous act.

The body of the deceased was taken to the morgue at Dunkwa St. Mark Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
