Fox Searchlight's "Favorite" is nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos. Writer Tony McNamara has spoken of the "occasional cruelty" of his characters, but Weisz is not sure if he accepts it. "Sarah can be aggressive in defense, but she is not cruel. With cruelty, there is a pleasure in administering wickedness to others. I see it as practical. I think she is a lioness. In the wild, females can be quite aggressive. A character from this complex can be exhausting. Weisz was asked the secret to keep his energy during production.

Weisz collaborated with Lanthimos on "The Lobster" of 2015, so his methods and style were not new, although "The Favorite" has always been rich in discoveries.
