As the charge leading up to elections in Ekiti state by 2022 grows with politicians and political analysts brimming with permutations, state Governor Kayode Fayemi said the future will determine his next political move.
Without a doubt, Fayemi of Ekiti’s mind is stretched with a new idea or sensation on how to develop the state from time to time (beyond his tenure).
His government has shown a rare commitment to a non-toxic and abundant Ekiti, working harder to achieve effective governance for all in the state.
What attracted Fayemi a lot is that he is not ready to be irritated by handing over unfinished projects to who will succeed his government; this is why it undertakes to carry out all the projects in progress.
As a people-centered government, his government has brought hope to the people of the state. For example, in August 2021, Kayode reinstated the payment of consecutive minimum wage adjustments to workers in Ekiti, which had previously been suspended because the state was accumulating income for the plight of the workers.
The will was clarified by Information Commissioner Akin Omole during the economic review meeting held in August in Ado-Ekiti.
When critics thought Kayode was done, he also said the payment of a percentage grant to Ekiti State University Hospital was approved by the committee.
From 50 to 60 percent, the grant to Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUEST) has been increased; and September 2021 was the month of its approval.
With the way he approaches governance in Ekiti, Kayode has proven that he is an embodied solution governor who will stop at nothing to avoid crises and challenges that are not suited to give the people good governance.
If Kayode were anyone, he wouldn’t have bothered to give Ekiti the best in all aspects of governance, having endured three and a half years in 2007 in the hands of political demagogues when he contested the elections. who saw him go to court until October 15, 2010, when the Court of Appeal (in Ilorin, Kwara State) declared him the authentic elected governor of Ekiti State.
Out of all that was the hand of detractors who called themselves activists and the opposition who pushed him around the court during his first term, Kayode did not hesitate to give Ekiti State the true meaning of democracy – ensuring that the state not only knows the meaning of transformation, but has also experienced it.
The economy has been tested to be good in the state and the driving industries heralding the nooks and crannies of Ekiti State. Microfinance as a stronghold for reducing poverty was introduced to help micro, medium and small enterprises to develop in the area of obtaining soft loans. This was aside a certain amount of money that he created and distributed monthly for the maintenance of the elderly and elderly in Ekiti State.
There is no longer any doubt that Kayode enjoys investing in human capital (people-oriented projects) and the workforce in this state has always learned skills through world-class training and courses. Kayode was consistent before and after his second term on July 14, 2018.
The gap his absence created in the run-up to his re-emergence as governor of Ekiti State was better imagined than it was experienced by residents of the state, who longed for a reliable man like Kayode.
As a determined man, Kayode did not relax during his time in political oblivion as ex-governor of Ekiti, he increased his political sagacity for the task that lay ahead and people did not disappoint him as they re-elected him governor, breaking the political bone of an incumbent whose interest was dashed.
It was about understanding that the reason his people love him so much is because they haven’t betrayed his position as a scholar of international lineage. His second term as governor of Ekiti State indeed became a blessing for the state which was once ruled as if it were a garrison during the period following its re-emergence in as governor.
People see Kayode beyond Ekiti State as an exemplary statesman, extraordinary leader and scholar of international history. They also see him as a veteran development geek, an accomplished politician, and a conscientious statesman who follows his rhetoric than some other politicians who would rather be politics in everything.
Operation Amotekun was one of his many ingenuities in ensuring that the people of the Southwest viewed security as neighborhood watch. Just as Kayode said today that his political future is in the future, as Minister of Mines and Steel Development before July 2018, his political future was also a matter of speculation.
But he was confident of returning as governor when he told his people and supporters in the Ekiti State branch of the All Progressives Congress that he was confident to resume the governorship. He was optimistic about winning given that he believed at the time that there was unfinished business to give his people good governance that he wanted to accomplish.
His post has been consistent – he gives everything that appeals to his fantastic thinking and planning. It would be imperative to declare that the people of Ekiti will be missed by Governor Fayemi Kayode when he steps down as governor next year.
They will miss his prowess in infrastructure development, his prudence in safety, his financial responsibility, his loving heart for the workforce and many more.
They will miss him for the challenges that await the state. But one thing is certain, they will miss him for his record of good governance, his difficult due process. He will certainly be missed by the 177 parishes across their different party lines.
