Cosmetic products contain chemicals that can cause permanent neurological damage
A total of 41 cosmetics on Ghana have been found to contain dangerous chemicals that could cause deadly diseases, including kidney poisoning and permanent damage to the nervous system.
A health alert issued by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) said its investigations had revealed that the products had been adulterated with mercury, hydroquinone or steroids, which are "not allowed in cosmetics "because of their potential health risks.
The Authority said that these chemicals could cause permanent neurological damage in children exposed to mercury during pregnancy and / or badfeeding, renal toxicity, fertility problems, conbad anomalies, toxicity gastrointestinal, hepatic toxicity, skin infections and skin cancer.
He stated that the actions of the nine companies responsible for falsification were clearly in contravention of the 1973 Act (NRCD 173) and Articles 111 (c) and 113 (b) of Law 851.
The FDA has therefore advised the public against purchasing cosmetics and, in the case of those who have purchased them, to "stop using these products and return them to the stores where they were purchased or to the FDA. "
In the meantime, he ordered companies to immediately recall products from the market.
