The British Police Federation has confirmed that it has been hit by a cyberattack.
The organization, which looks like a union, representing 119,000 police officers in the 43 armed forces of England and Wales, described the event in a statement. shared on Twitter.
The ransomware attack hit computers at the federation headquarters in Surrey on March 9, but was not revealed until Thursday. Several databases and messaging systems have been encrypted, said the organization, which disrupted its services. Its backup data has also been deleted.
"There is no evidence at this stage that data has been extracted from our systems but this can not be ignored," said the organization. in a tweet.
None of the other 43 branches in the UK have been affected, the statement said.

A spokesman for the Federation of Police made no comment beyond the statements of the organization and forwarded his comments to the National Crime Agency, which did not immediately answer questions.
