Roger Federer on Sunday reinforced his lead in 'Big Titles' over Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal by winning his fourth Miami Open presented by the title Itau.
If Djokovic won a seventh record trophy in Miami, he would have equaled the Swiss record. But instead, 37-year-old Federer won his 54th title – a mix of Grand Slam, Nitto ATP Finals and Masters 1000 crowns – to give himself room to maneuver ahead of Djokovic (52) and Rafael Nadal (50 years).
Federer's form improved during his run in Miami, after finally defeating 2018 champion John Isner 6-1, 6-4 in the final. This is Federer's 28th victory in the Masters 1000, ahead of Djokovic (33) and Nadal (32). The victory of the father of four marks the 16th season during which he won a big title.
Although Federer has not competed on clay during the past two seasons, he will have the opportunity to add to his total for the Big Title on Red Earth. ATP Race To London's # 1 player is currently competing at the Mutua Madrid Open and Roland Garros. The Swiss have won three victories in Madrid (twice on clay and once on hard drive). He also won the Roland Garros title in 2009.
"I think that's it [Miami] winning made for me, it takes away even more pressure from the clay season, "said Federer. "I'm very excited, it's a good challenge, a good test."

The Big Titles race warms up on the set as Federer, Djokovic and Nadal all fight for first place. The world No. 1, Djokovic, will want to get back on track after the third and fourth rounds at Indian Wells and Miami, respectively. He has not won a major title on clay since 2016 at Roland-Garros.
Nadal will be able to match Federer's mark if he wins the four titles on clay for the second time. In 2010, lefties triumphed in Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros. Nadal has won 33 of his 50 headlines on clay.
