DETROIT (Reuters) – Fiat Chrysler said Tuesday it will use Google and Alphabet Inc. technologies to connect all its vehicles by 2022. It will provide music and video while facilitating future sharing capabilities and self-driving.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCA) will use Google's Android operating system around the world instead of a software mix that varies regionally, a spokesman said. The manufacturer will also use a cloud-based digital platform from the Harman unit of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.

Unlike its rivals General Motors Co and Ford Motor Co, FCA has hardly devoted anything to the development of autonomous vehicle technology. This allows the company to save large sums of money, but makes it dependent on third parties for the provision of technologies and systems.

The FCA announced that it would launch these new capabilities in the second half of 2019. The system will help owners "by forecasting maintenance requirements, locating gasoline and charging stations, receiving Traffic prompts and catering offers and providing live badistance press the button. "
