The Indian government has allowed theaters to operate at 100% capacity and many producers have now braved fears and speculation to schedule their films to be released in theaters in March. Films starring stars like Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, John Abraham and Parineeti Chopra have been lined up for a theatrical release in March 2021.
Filmmakers expect a rapid recovery in theaters’ activities. Big stars like Salman Khan have announced their films, highlighting the interconnectedness of stars and cinemas.
A look at the main films hitting Indian theaters in March 2021:
Roohi
The first and one of the most interesting to hit theaters in March will be Janhvi Kapoor’s horror comedy, Roohi. Janhvi is paired up opposite Rajkummar Rao in the film which is the second film in producer Dinesh Vijan’s “Horror Comedy Universe”. It will be released on March 11. The first film, Stree, was widely praised for its balance between entertainment and social messages in a short, sweet, and funny film. The film presented as an artist, with Janhvi leading the star cast, is sure to add to the footsteps in movie theaters.
Bombay Saga
With John Abraham in the lead role, Sanjay Gupta (from Blankets fame) also lined up his action flick, Bombay Saga for a release on March 11. Set in the 1980s and 1990s, Mumbai Saga stars Emraan Hashmi, Kajal Agarwal, Jackie Shroff, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, and Amole Gupte, aside from John.
It’s time to dance
Katrina Kaif’s sister Isabelle Kaif will debut in Bollywood on March 12 with It’s time to dance. The film puts Isabelle in front of Sooraj Pancholi. Designed to introduce ballroom and Latin dance to Indian audiences, the dance film is directed by Stanley D’Costa.
Fauji call
Sharman Joshi’s Fauji call is scheduled to hit theaters on March 12. Written and directed by Aaryaan Saxena, it is produced by Vikram Singh and Ovez Shaikh. It also includes Bidita Bag, Mugdha Godse, and Zarina Wahab, among others.
Sandeep aur pinky faraar
With Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, Dibakar Banerjee’s directorial business Sandeep aur pinky faraar will also be available on March 19.
Saina
Starring Parineeti Chopra in the lead role, the sports drama will be released on March 26. Directed by, the film is based on Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal. Amol Gupte wrote and directed the sports biopic. Nehwal won bronze in women’s singles at the London 2012 Olympics, becoming the first Indian shuttle to win an Olympic medal.
Haathi Mere Saathi
Popular star Rana Daggubati also has a release for March – the highly anticipated trilingual film, Haathi Mere Saathi. Besides Hindi, the film will also be released in Tamil (Kaadan) and Telugu (Aaranya). Led by Prabhu Solomon, Daggubati tries out the main character who was crafted on the lines of India’s forest man, environmental activist Jadav Payeng. The film also features Shriya Pilgaonkar and Zoya Hussain.
