Individually, the Spanish court Noria, directed by Carlos Baena, stands out as the most nominated work and competes in three categories. Two other projects – the second season of the Chilean series Paper port and the Colombian feature film Tropical virus – earned two nominations each.
Four features are in the running for the first prize this year: Another day of life, Buñuel in the labyrinth of turtles, Tito and the birds, and Tropical virus. Last year, the winner was the Mexican production Ana and Bruno by Carlos Carrera.
The finalists, from a previous list of candidates, were selected by an international jury composed of director and screenwriter Alê Abreu (Boy and the world), Deanna Marsigliese, Artistic Director of Pixar, Producer Gustavo Ferrada, Barbie Heusinger, Commercial Director of Sola Media, and Marie-Laurence Turpin, Head of Development at Xilam Animation.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the Quirino festivities also include a co-production and trade forum allowing industry professionals to exchange information on the state of the art. animation in the Ibero-American region. Those interested in participating in the co-production forum can submit their candidacy until Friday, February 22nd on the Quirino Awards website.
