The Chicago Fire acquired veteran striker C.J. Sapong of the Philadelphia Union for $ 400,000 in MLS benefits.
Sapong is signed for the 2019 season with a club option for 2020. It brings the necessary depth to the fire front.
Sapong, 30, has 56 goals and 23 badists in eight MLS seasons. He made 233 appearances.
"C.J. brings different skills to our attack options," said Fire's president and chief executive, Nelson Rodriguez, in a statement from the team. "We can now be more varied in the way we attack."
The Fire opens the season on March 2 at Los Angeles Galaxy. The opening game at home is March 9 against Orlando City SC.
