A staff member of the Ghana National Fire Service collapsed while putting out a fire that ravaged Gary Marvin Memorial Hospital in Kotwi, Atwima Kwanwoma district, Ashanti region.
He is currently being treated at Komfo Anokye University Hospital.
According to Ashanti’s regional public relations manager, DO3 Desmond Ackah, the heat and smoke in one of the rooms was high and while trying to put out the fire the blaze passed out.
He said the station received a distress call at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning after the blaze had started hours before.
He said the area does not have a fire station, indicating that the blaze could not have done much damage if one were located in the area.
DO3 Desmond Ackah took the opportunity to appeal to the government to urgently build a fire station in the region to serve the district of Atwima Kwanwoma.
He said investigations will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
