Members of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have been trying to put out a fire in the Makola Mall since Friday morning.

According to firefighters, because of the amount of smoke released by the basement, they could not locate the source of the fire.

Since then, they have used a smoke extractor to fully access the basement to fight the fire.

"The fire continues to come from the basement of the shop, we are trying to extinguish it but the problem is that the shop has only one entrance," said to the media the Public Relations Officer of the Makola Fire Station, DOII, DOII.

He further noted that a taxi driver had gone to the train station to inform him of the morning fire.

"It was a taxi driver who drove us to our station to inform us of the fire, we had to take the wrong road to get here because of the traffic."

The Makola fire station on Friday, February 22, responded to the distress call of a fire that declared at the City Gold Jewelery warehouse at the Makola Mall in Accra.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 7:30 am

"We have seen people come out of the store shouting and carrying goods. Then we saw a thick smoke emanating from the store. So I went to help them carry some of the goods from the store to other stores there, "an eyewitness tells.
