This year, no major browser will be able to run Flash content from scratch. It is also clear that Mozilla will soon disable the support of the technology in Firefox installations. With version 69, it will be ready.
The version of Firefox in question should be published in September. Before that, the browser pbades of course by the usual tests. If support was then also disabled in the final version, this means that users are no longer prompted to indicate if they want to enable the plug-in to view the content currently in use.
However, it will still be possible to manually enable Flash in the browser settings. It is only in the coming year that the plugin will be completely removed from the installation package. Currently, we do not know in which version it will be. But if you still need the technology, you can still use a manually installed plug-in for a while.
But even this is only possible in the so-called Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) version and for a short time. The end of 2020 is completely over and Firefox will also refuse to allow the Flash plugin in the episode. Web site owners will then be forced to offer their content in a different form.
Because Firefox will probably be the last browser to support Flash, at least for the biggest in the industry. Microsoft has stopped the technology in Edge and Internet Explorer this year. And Chrome takes this step in version 76 – this is about to happen in July. Subsequently, once again, during a transitional period, it will be possible to activate the technology in the settings. Nevertheless, the user must then agree separately for each individual content.
