The President of the African Union Commission (AU), Moussa Faki Mahamat, is expected in Ghana this weekend as a special guest at the official opening of the Bisa Aberwa Museum in Notompo, in the region of Sekondi.
Sources close to the board of trustees of the Pan African Museum revealed in Accra that Mr. Mahamat, former prime minister of Chad and chairman of the African Union Commission since March 2017, could be accompanied by his vice-president. Ghanaian President, Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey. .
The inaugural ceremony itself will be celebrated by Ghana's First Lady Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo on Sunday, July 28. State Ministers, Members of Parliament, Diplomatic Corps, Traditional Chiefs, Heads of State Institutions and the Private Sector were invited.
The Bisa Aberwa Museum, created by Mr. Kwaw Ansah, one of Africa's most respected award-winning filmmakers, founder and CEO of TV Africa Limited, is dedicated to preserving history. of the black race, promoting African values and celebrating pan-African heroes.
The museum is created to be one of the greatest sculptural representations of clay, wood, cement, paintings and photographs of personalities whose sacrifices have shaped African history, both on the continent and in the diaspora.
It contains about 2,200 artifacts, sculptural pieces and photographs of heroes from the African struggle and the African-American civil rights movement, as well as other black personalities from the French, Portuguese and Spanish Caribbean.
Speaking at a press conference in Nkotompo before opening Sunday, Mr Kwaw Ansah, chairman of the museum's board of directors, made up of 12 members, said: "L & rsquo; Africa has made its contribution to world civilization and we must tell our story. "
On the history of Africa related to slavery and colonialism, Mr. Ansah said, "The objects on display at Bisa Aberwa are a reminder of the struggle of the black race, our culture and our system. of belief. "
At the same time, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has extended its branch of cooperation to the international museum, considered by many to be a major tourist attraction.
Justifying the Greater Toronto Area's interest, Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of the Authority, told reporters after a tour of Nkotompo's facility, "Bisa Aberwa is a welcome addition to Ghana's heritage resource."
He described the museum as "ingenious, creative and rich in curation and representation" and congratulated Mr. Kwaw Ansah for "paving the way again".
