Ebenezer Oduro Owusu (sidebar) addressing the elders
The University of Ghana (UG) has launched its first return to the Alumni Home to raise funds to support the UG @ 70 Endowment Fund.
The endowment fund was established as one of the major activities marking the 70th anniversary of the university. The goal is to provide unrestricted funding for the university to fulfill its mandate and provide additional facilities and resources to enhance teaching and learning.
The homecoming, which will take place from August 9 to 11, will also commemorate the university's 70th anniversary and create a networking path for alumni.
Among the activities that characterize the event are the Akwaaba night musical concert, the UG campus tour, aerobics, sports competitions between halls and the wood-burning night, among others.
Recommendation
Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice Chancellor of the University, congratulated the alumni for their dynamism in the events concerning the progress of the school, adding that "the benefits that there is in having such dynamic old people can not be overestimated ".
School of intensive research
The CV added that, in order to intensify the program of transformation of the university into a research-intensive university, it had set up an institutional development office to engage, cultivate and develop stronger relationships with its stakeholders and other philanthropic partners.
This, he said, was intended to provide financial and other support to advance the academic experience and the university students.
Professor Owusu added that, thanks to the efforts of the office, the university had been able to create two world chapters in addition to Ghana, stating that they were UG Alumni Association North America (UGANA) and UG Alumni Association UK.
"We hope to reach all our alumni around the world and it is obvious that we can achieve this by maintaining a well-established relationship with all alumni," he added.
He stated in this regard that the school had established an Alumni Relations Office as part of its Office for the Advancement of Institutions, in order to create a mutually beneficial relationship with the elders.
Dotation funds
Regarding the endowment fund, the VC said it was one of the university's strategies to address the challenge of diversifying internally generated sources of funds to reduce the burden on students .
He said the goal was to raise $ 100 million over five years and that he had so far collected about 5,600,000 GH ¢.
As a result, he urged all alumni and other businesses to help the school reach its goal.
