First review of Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M 2020:

In the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca paddock during the Geico US Round of the 2019 FIM Superbike World Championship, Yamaha North America presented its first Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M 2020, the next evolution of the Japanese manufacturer that offers powerful superb motorcycles. Updates are in the form of engine enhancements, electronic enhancements, suspensions and styling changes that allow the two apex predators to stay in shape within their segment.

1. The 998cc four-cylinder in-line crankshaft powertrain is back with several performance improvements. Turning the handle of the YZF-R1 and R1M is one of the most pleasurable pleasures of a motorcyclist, not to mention the brilliant exhaust note. To get more performance from the CP4 engine, Yamaha engineers have equipped it with rocker arms, which should increase the efficiency of the valve train. Coupled with this update are revised cam profiles. In addition, the cylinder head is new, as are the fuel injectors.
2. The new Öhlins racing electronic suspension is presented on the 2020 YZF-R1M. The top shelf R1M has always used an electronic suspension. For 2020, things fly away with a brand new Öhlins NPX fork under pressure, as well as new damping parameters, tailored to the new fork. Of course, all suspension settings can be adjusted quickly and easily from the dashboard.

   

3. The standard R1 also receives suspension updates. While the Yamaha R1 2020 does not get the new Öhlins brilliance from the R1M, engineers have worked to improve KYB performance by reducing oil height, spring rate, new shims and setting parameters. The rear shock absorber has also been re-tuned to compensate for fork changes.
4. Yamaha upgraded the RS1 and R1M tires to Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street RS11 tires. These tires have a new tread pattern and updated rubber compounds.
5. YZF-R1 and R1M electronic components gain in fit. For 2020, the complete electronic software packages supported by the six-axis UMI of the YZF-R1 and R1M will still allow for refinement. There are now seven electronic pilot aids that can be adjusted independently.

   

6. Owners of R1 and R1M will be able to choose between two ABS settings. BC1 is optimized for the straight line, while BC2 is described as allowing superior cornering braking. In addition, the front brake pads have a new formulation.
7. The 2020 R1 gives pilots the ability to adjust engine braking between three levels.
   
8. Mobile devices can change the brake control and engine braking parameters on the R1 and R1M.

   

9. The new ride-by-wire system eliminates throttle cables.
10. The new YZF-R1 and R1M are even more aggressive and are not limited to Bold New Graphics. Pushing in an even more daring style direction, the revised bikes offer a sharper, more aerodynamic design. Yamaha says that aerodynamics has been improved by 5.3% when a driver is completely back in business. In terms of comfort, the side panels have been smoothed. Yamaha hopes to improve ergonomics for a larger number of drivers. In addition, the YZF-R1M receives a carbon fiber rear section to accentuate its remarkable presence of carbon fiber – even though its color is carbon fiber.
11. The new twin headlights are LEDs.

    

12. The MSRP of Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M 2020 has increased. With all these updates, the Yamaha YZF-R1 2020 standard now has an MSRP of $ 17,399, up from $ 700 over last year. The flagship product YZF-R1M has a MSRP of $ 26,099, $ 3,100 more than last year's model.
13. If you want a Yamaha R1M 2020, you must make a reservation on the Yamaha website. After booking a R1M, be patient. You will not see them at selected dealers until September 2019. Standard R1 also arrives in September, but reservations are not required.
