The Lagos High Court, sitting in Igbosere, issued a warrant yesterday for the arrest of former Super Eagles star Austin Okocha, better known as Jay Jay Okocha. for failing to appear in court to explain why he failed to pay his taxes.
Okocha was indicted by the Lagos State Department of Justice for three counts of non-repayment of income.
Judge Martins, state attorney for Lagos, had filed on June 6, 2017, but when the case was raised on October 5, 2017, the defendant did not appear in court.
Therefore, after several adjournments without the defendant appearing in court after service of service, the prosecutor urged the court to issue a warrant.
On January 29, 2019, Judge Adedayo Akintoye issued a warrant for the arrest of the star of the supper ex dinner and adjourned it until 19 February.
However, at the date of adjournment, the prosecution informed the court that the warrant had not been issued against the defendant.
At the hearing yesterday, Judge Akintoye again adjourned the proceedings until April 15 for the execution of the arrest warrant and the prosecution of the arrest. hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that the defendant had not provided a tax return for tax purposes to the tax administration departments of Lagos State.
Martins also stated that the defendant had failed to pay his income taxes.
He stated that the offenses contravened sections 56 (a) and (b) of Law No. 8 of 2006 on the Tax Administration of Lagos and Article 94 (1) of the Law on Taxation. personal income tax, chap. P8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria of 2004.
