Five suspected thieves died after shooting with residents of Denkyira-Akwaboso

Five suspected armed robbers were shot dead by residents of Denkyira-Akwaboso, in the Central region.

According to the police report, the group of armed thieves attempted to rob some residents.

However, in a shootout between the group and residents, five of the suspected thieves were shot, resulting in their deaths.

“Police [Diaso District Police Command] attended the scene and found five young men lying on the ground, dead. The bodies as well as the scene were photographed and inspected. Various degrees of gunshot wounds were found on all bodies, ”some parts of the report read.

Meanwhile, two of the suspected thieves – a man and a woman – escaped after the clashes, they added.

Police said two locally made weapons and fourteen empty cartridges were found at the scene.

They added that residents identified one of the men as Attah, a hardened armed robber within the community and on the wanted list by Diaso police.

“The bodies were transferred to the morgue of the Sefwi-Bibiani public hospital for storage, identification and autopsy,” police said.

Diaso District Police Command added that it is currently investigating the incident.
