Florida officials have declared a public health emergency to help cope with an increase in the number of cases of hepatitis A.
The media reports that Florida surgeon general Scott Rivkees declared the emergency on Thursday to alert the public to the severity of the disease and to allow better tests and treatments.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 2,034 cases of hepatitis A in Florida. In comparison, there were 548 cases last year and 276 cases in 2017.
