The prom season is just beginning in the United States, which also means their troversy.
A school in Florida has apparently run out of space at the venue of its choice for the ball and has placed overcrowded students on a "waiting list," reports CBS 12.
At Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Florida, students paid $ 90 for graduation tickets, but they could not go to the ball. Apparently, when students buy their prom tickets, they sign an agreement stating that they acknowledged that buying tickets online did not guarantee admission to the ball.
Madisen Maring was one of the students who paid to go to the dance only to discover that she could not attend and that she would not be reimbursed. Maring had already bought her dress and her boyfriend, her date, had obtained a ticket.
"How could they take my money and not allow me to go?" Maring said. "It must be a joke."
A spokesman for the Palm Beach County School District told CBS 12 that this year they had booked a new venue for two reasons: they did not usually fully fill the usual place and the place they used was reserved the evening of the ball. This year's site, which they use for the first time, has a capacity of 500 people.

Maring is not the only one to have experienced this problem. Between 30 and 40 students with tickets were apparently placed on the "waiting list" of the ball.
Madison Gerst, another school student, told Click Orlando that she was frustrated with the way the situation was handled.
"[I spent] $ 600 on the dress, $ 300 on the extensions, I rented a Maserati, I spent well over $ 1,000 for the prom and now I can not go anymore ", said Madison Gerst.
All tickets are not refundable, even if students can not go, reports CBS 12.
"No luck, it's a rough timing, I'm sorry, you can not go," Gerst said.
Gerst says that she and other students are trying to organize an end-of-year ball for those who can not get in. The dance would take place in a different place.
The school board was scheduled to hold a meeting on Monday night to remedy the situation, but it canceled it when the journalists arrived, CBS reported.
A district spokesman told CBS 12 that graduating students would get their money back.
A Park Vista High School representative did not immediately return the INSIDER's request for comment.
