The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said the flu had killed nine other people in the state, bringing the total number of deaths this season to 135.
According to the agency, this number does not reflect all deaths related to influenza in the state, as many are neither reported nor diagnosed. According to media reports, there have been nearly 400 flu-related deaths in North Carolina during the 2017-2018 influenza season; WTVD-TV says it was the most reported in the state since deaths became reportable in 2009.
WITN-TV says it's the third week in a row that the number of flu-related deaths has decreased.
The agency says they practice good hygiene and get vaccinated to help prevent the flu. Flu symptoms include high fever, body aches, chills, and fatigue.
