DUBAI (Reuters) – The Middle East flydubai carrier said Thursday that the Boeing 737 MAX, immobilized after two fatalities in five months, remained critical to its future strategy.
Flydubai, a state-owned company, is one of the largest customers of the MAX aircraft. In 2013, he ordered 250 narrow-body jet aircraft of the new model. It currently operates 13 MAX 8 and MAX 9.
"We recognize that it is a unique and complex situation underpinned by security and regulation. Our experienced teams are faced with a number of procedural factors, "said a spokeswoman for the airline.
"Flydubai continues to work closely with its regulator and Boeing and we attach importance to our longstanding relationships with these partners. Our MAX aircraft remain an integral part of our strategy for the future. "
The 737 MAX is banned from flying in most countries following the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight that killed 157 people on board.
Another type of 737 operated by flydubai crashed in Russia in 2016, killing all 62 people on board. The incident is still under investigation, although a preliminary report suggests that a pilot error was at the root of the problem.
