BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany's Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) announced Wednesday that it has been approved by US regulators for the acquisition of US home-based dialysis equipment manufacturer NxStage and expects the be concluded in the coming days.

FMC agreed to buy NxStage in August 2017 for $ 2 billion, but the deal was delayed due to competition concerns and, more recently, the closure of the US government.

"Very early this morning, we were informed that the Federal Trade Commission had approved our NxStage agreement," Rice Powell, Executive Director, told reporters. "We plan to close the contract with NxStage in the coming days."

FMC CFO Michael Brosnan also announced his intention to retire once his successor has been identified. FMC has announced plans to appoint a new CFO by the end of the year.
