Galaxy Fold was to be the first device on the market, in which the screen can be unfolded to the size of a small tablet. Competitor Huawei has announced the launch of its Mate X smartphone in development for the summer. It should be a bit more expensive with 2300 euros.
In the Euro Galaxy Fold of 2000, Samsung has been several technical reporters in preliminary tests, the display broke. "The initial results of the reported display problems indicate that the cause may be articulated," Samsung said Monday. Market observers previously thought the foldable seal in the center of the screen was a potential vulnerability, but Samsung and Huawei said the mechanisms were robust.

Plastic display instead of glbad

For Samsung, the short-term postponement of the launch date is a major setback. The smartphone market leader wanted to prove its strength of innovation with the Galaxy Fold. Instead, the situation has given rise to memories of the debacle with the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, which Samsung was due to recall in the fall of 2016 after a few weeks on the market due to battery fires.
The Galaxy Fold can be opened as a book, so you can use the folding screen with a diagonal of 7.3 inches. When it is closed, the user has a relatively small screen on one of the outer sides with a diagonal of 4.6 inches available. Samsung has worked with Google to ensure applications can continue to be used seamlessly when opening the device. Huawei has opted for a different concept: with the Mate X, the folding screen stays outside and once folded, it is used half as a smartphone.
