The Minister of Agriculture designate, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, says the state of food security in Ghana today is “very stable”.

He said that Ghana as a country had not been in such a situation for many years.

He said that by going through our markets it is obvious that we have food in abundance with stable prices.

The minister designate who has held this post for the past four years and who has been reappointed said that even in our dry season we eat in abundance.

He was responding to a question posed by Haruna Iddrisu, a senior member of the parliamentary audit committee, on the food security situation in Ghana.

He said maize is the most important food crop in the country as it is the only food security crop that grows all over Ghana and is also used by all Ghanaians.

Dr Afriyie Akoto went on to say that the government has done a lot to ensure food security and stable food prices.
