LONDON: Matteo Guendouzi admits that few people would have heard him speak before he arrived at Arsenal last year, and that if he is surprised to have become a regular of the first 11, he has already shown that he is bringing something different to the team.
The 19-year-old Frenchman was signed in July by Lorient and quickly became the favorite of manager Unai Emery, making 33 appearances in all competitions.
"I'm a little surprised that everything is going so well," Guendouzi told the Evening Standard.
"I had a chance during the pre-season tour and I took it, I showed that I could be part of this team.
"Let's be honest, apart from the players here who follow a little French leagues, no one has ever heard of me."
No other teenager has played more minutes in the Premier League this season and Guendouzi thanks Emery for having trusted him so early in his career at Arsenal.
"I owe him a lot because he trusts me from the start, giving so much play time to a 19-year-old Arsenal player is rare," added Guendouzi.
The arsenal is at the origin of BATE Borisov 1-0 in his last match in Europa League with the last 32 and hosts the Belarusian team in the second leg on Thursday.
