EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Reuters) – Kieran Trippier, the new coach of Atletico Madrid, said he was settling faster than expected in the Spanish club thanks to his teammates.
The English international made a surprise trip to Spain last week and made his second start for his new club in a landslide 7-3 victory over rival Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup on Friday.
Sending to Reuters after the match, the defender said that he was dreaming of getting out of his comfort zone in Spain and made learning this language his goal.
"I've been better than expected to be honest," said Trippier. "The guys were brilliant with me, all the staff made me feel like home.
"It is to learn the language now and it is my priority to engage with boys and all that surrounds it, embrace culture."
"There are a lot of new faces but the guys make it easy for you when they include you in everything.
"They speak a little English around the table and I play my part in Spanish.
"I am delighted to be here with a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family."
Trippier also welcomed the words of his coach Diego Simeone, believing that he is well placed to improve a key area of his game.
"At the training, the level is incredible," added Trippier. "I am delighted to be part of this world clbad team, with a world-clbad coach.
"When you learn the defensive side, there is no better coach in which to work, and that's one area I want to improve."
