Ford has a meteorological plant in Cologne, Germany, responsible for testing cars under extreme conditions under one roof. It ensures that Ford vehicles will continue to be reliable in varying weather conditions, such as the heat of the Sahara Desert or even atop the highest Alpine peaks.

Named after two of the most recognizable names in Ford’s motorsport history, the two robots aim to replace human drivers in extreme weather tests, eliminating many necessary safety protocols.
Shelby and Miles can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit) to 80 ° C (176 ° F), as well as extreme altitudes. They can also be configured in different riding styles, with “arms” and “legs” used to operate the pedals, the shift lever and even the start / stop button.
“These two new pilots are fantastic additions to the team as they can take on the tough endurance tests at high altitudes and in hot weather. Despite Shelby and Miles being present, Ford said it is still performing real-world testing in European locations and around the world, including the Grossglockner Mountain in Austria and the snow-capped Arjeplog region in Sweden.
