Three Ghanaians from the Ghana Mission in New York, USA, were suspended for embezzling funds.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the actions of these officers resulted in a loss of more than two thousand dollars in revenue for the consulate.
Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, minister of the sector, said officials were accused of fraudulent behavior by a disciplinary committee consisting of four people.

"The three officers were also forced to repay the misappropriated funds and they did not receive any salary during the suspension period. This decision was also based on the fact that the evidence was circumstantial in nature," she says.
This is not the first time that Ghanaian diplomats are involved in mismanagement of funds. The Auditor General's report over the years has documented cases where embbady and consulate officials have embezzled funds.
For example, the Auditor General's report reveals that an accountant from the Ghanaian mission to Angola embezzled € 64,655.00 and $ 87,534.00.

The audit report also revealed that Ghana had lost an amount equivalent to 531,616.75 GHPS, which would have been hijacked by a former accountant of the country's mission in Luanda, Angola.
