Anglogold Ashanti Demo Neew Protesters dressed in red and holding placards to express their dissatisfaction

A group calling itself the 2013/14 Disjointed Workers Group of Anglogold Ashanti Ghana Limited, Obuasi Mine; Monday protested at the Gold House in Accra.

The group members, who were fired from 2013 to 2014, are demanding, among other things, special compensation from the management of Anglogold Ashanti (AGA).

They claimed that they were about 4,000 ex-workers affected and that they needed between $ 60,000 and $ 125,000 depending on the number of years of work.

After submitting a petition received by the AGA Human Resources Officer, they promised to set up a camp at the entrance of the company's Accra office until a favorable response was received.

Addressing Citi News, group boss Alex Frimpong said that several attempts to obtain payment of their compensation have not yielded results.

"When they laid us off, they were supposed to give us a special compensation, but until now, we have not received anything … That's why we came here to arrange compensation." "
