Lieutenant-General (retired) Joshua Mahamadu Hamidu, former Chief of the Defense Staff and government member of the Supreme Military Council is dead.
According to MyNewsGh.com, he died at 37 Military Hospital in Accra where he was admitted to receive treatment on Monday evening.
Family sources tell MyNewsGh.com that funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later due to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s ban on such events
Capo, 85, was national security adviser to President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2001. He has also served as chairman of the Narcotics Control Board and some boards of the Bank of Ghana.
He also served as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and is widely known as the Father of Military Intelligence.
Joshua Hamidu had been accused in certain circles of complicity in the murder of his overlord, at the end of I-na Yakubu Andani II in March 2002. The Wuaku Commission which investigated the circumstances which led to the tragedy, he was cleared of all charges.
