Former Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal believes that Matthijs de Ligt should be part of a Premier League team, but these are not the Red Devils.
The Dutch international is in strong demand this summer, Barcelona and Manchester United being linked to his signature.
The youngster will probably end up at the Nou camp, but neither Van Gaal nor Peter Bosz, who worked with De Ligt in Ajax, think that he should reach Barcelona.
The Dutch duo think the 19-year-old should move to England and play under one of the best managers of the game so far – Pep Guardiola.
"I think De Ligt fits perfectly with Manchester City," Bosz told FOX Sports. "Vincent Kompany has already left and Nicolas Otamendi is not good enough, so I would love to see him next to Aymeric Laporte."
Van Gaal agreed, adding: "I think exactly the same thing, although De Ligt can also go to Barcelona because I do not like their central defenders either.
"He could play in Barcelona, but he could also play for Manchester City, and in that case, I would choose Pep Guardiola rather than Lionel Messi."
