Former mayor of Kumasi appointed executive director of NSS

The former Head of the Metropolitan Executive (MCE) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Osei Assibey Antwi, has been appointed Ag Executive Director of the National Service Scheme.

The letter of appointment, seen by JoyNews, is signed by the chief of staff, Frema Osei Opare and addressed to Mr. Assibey-Antwi.

“Pursuant to Section 15 (1) of the Ghana National Service Scheme Act 1980 (Act 426), I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to act as the Executive Director of Ghana National Service Scheme (the “Scheme”), pending receipt of the constitutionally required notice of the Scheme Board of Directors, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission, “some parts of the letter.

The former mayor succeeds Mustapha Ussif who left the post after joining the 8th Parliament as a member of the Yagaba-Kubori constituency in the North-East region.

Mr. Assibey-Antwi must, within 14 days, indicate whether or not he accepts the appointment.

Osei Assibey-Antwi was mayor of Kumasi during President Akufo-Addo’s first term.

Mr. Assibey-Antwi, 56, is from Kuwawu Wonoo in the Ashanti region and served as regional deputy minister of Ashanti under President Kufuor’s administration from 2006 to 2009.

He was the NPP’s Ashanti regional vice president from 2000 to 2008 and attempted to go to parliament in 2008 on the Manhyia constituency ticket, but failed in the parliamentary primaries in 2007.

He holds an MBA in Marketing and is a certified member of the Institute of Commercial Management.

He worked as an Assistant Tax Inspector responsible for finance and administration at the then Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which is now part of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
