Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, called for the establishment of a pension plan for former members of Parliament.
The appeal comes after the death of a former chief of the majority, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.
"Honorable Members, it is important that we seriously consider issues relating to former members," said Professor Ocquaye deputies Thursday during parliamentary proceedings.
He said that the lives of many former lawmakers "do not match what we would like to see and, in fact, it hurts me personally to see what we look like once we have served and that people think that these are people making money in the House ".
"People do not have money here and are not central here. See the other members of Parliament who recently left … we have to look at reality and make provisions for pensions and other aspects of the well-being of hon. Members. "
Dr. Adjei, former National President of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), died on March 12.
He was 76 years old.
While praising the late NDC President, the MP for Pusiga Laadi Ayamba asked his colleagues about the fact that he had abandoned the late Biakoye MP during his sick leave.
