The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Chris Waddle, described Christian Eriksen as "irreplaceable" for the club, insisting that they should not even consider selling it.
Offensive midfielder Eriksen has more than 18 months and, after scoring four goals and adding eight badists in 21 Premier League matches this season, should spark the interest of several big names. European clubs this summer. Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked to the Danish star, while Real Madrid is also enthusiastic.
However, Waddle does not believe that taking advantage of Eriksen would be a misguided idea for the Spurs.
"If Tottenham let Eriksen go, they will not be able to replace him," he said. Sportingbet.
"He is a leading player that everyone would like to sign and if Tottenham wants to compete seriously with the best clubs, that's the type of player he needs.
"Eriksen is vital to the club, especially in its new stadium. Eriksen will know what he's worth and he has the right to demand it.
"Tottenham has had a much tighter budget to settle in the new stadium and it would be much cheaper to give Eriksen what he wants than to spend a large sum of money trying to replace it."
The comments arrive just days after another former Spurs man, Jermaine Jenas, said the club should consider selling Eriksen to help strengthen other areas of the team.
Waddle, who played for the Spurs between 1985 and 1989, also revealed that Harry Kane will start to worry about his future at the club if they can not compete for the trophies soon.
"Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham this summer, but his head will eventually turn to the trophies," he said.
"Real Madrid can practically guarantee it, as well as a very generous salary increase.
"He seems very well settled in Tottenham and likes to play football, but when he comes back on his career, he wants his goals protected.
"Kane will look into the future of Tottenham once they move into the new stadium and he will decide his future from there.
"He can be part of any team in the world, so Tottenham has to prove that he is the club in which he can lift the trophies."
Waddle also made a bold comparison between the importance of Kane for Spurs and that of Pochettino.
"Kane is more important to Tottenham than Pochettino. There would be plenty of top managers who would accept the position at Tottenham if it became available, but if Tottenham lost Kane and his goals he would lose 20 points per season.
"Kane has been the most consistent striker in the Premier League over the past four seasons and there is no way to replace him."
