Abdullahi Ibrahim, former Chairman of the Body of Benchers and former Minister of Education, Science and Technology, has died.
Nigeria’s senior lawyer (SAN) died on Sunday of heart complications.
He was admitted to the English Bar in 1963 and to the Nigerian Bar in 1964. The deceased was at various times legal advisor to the then Ministry of Finance of Northern Nigeria and the New Nigeria Development Company.
Ibrahim was a senior lawyer and head of prosecutions at the Kano State Ministry of Justice.
He was a member of the National Judicial Council (CNM) between 2004 and 2008; Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee for Jurists from 2001 to 2006 and also Chairman of the Legal Aid Council from 1990 to 1994.
He was a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria (FCIArb) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) (MCIArb), he is also a member of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Nigeria (FINALS).
Ibrahim served as Education Commissioner in the former Kwara State, Minister of Education, Science and Technology; Minister of Transport and Aviation and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Commissioner, International Boundary, National Boundary Commission from 2000 to 2006, he was a member of the team that negotiated the Maritime Boundary Treaty between Nigeria and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, as well as the United Nations Agreement. Zafiro / Ekanga oil fields.
Ibrahim was Nigeria’s Agent in the Nigeria-Cameroon dispute at the International Court of Justice (ICC). He also led the Nigerian delegation to the United Nations conference on the establishment of the ICC.
