The 5 former members of the NCA presidency council face 17 counts of causing a financial loss.
A high court in Accra has ordered three former senior officials of the National Communications Authority (NCA), former badistant national security coordinator and businessman, to open their defense in a case of corruption brought against them by the state.
The president of the court, Eric Baffour, gave the directive after establishing that there was sufficient base to pursue all five.
Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, former Chair of the NCA Board of Directors; former General Manager, William Tetteh Tevie; former board member Nana Owusu Ensaw; Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, former Deputy National Security Coordinator, and George Derek Oppong, a businessman, face 17 counts of financial loss for the state.
According to the decision, four defendants on the 17 counts were sufficiently well-founded to have their defense open.
However, Nana Owusu Ensaw must defend herself against only two of the charges; "Theft related to the charge in count three and the offense of money laundering according to count 14."
The five people are currently being sued for allegedly embezzling public funds worth $ 4 million as part of the purchase of a cybersecurity device for security national.

According to the state, the former government John Mahama had contracted with an Israeli company, NSO Group Technology Limited, for the provision of listening equipment at a cost of $ 6 million, in order to allow authorities to monitor the conversations of persons suspected of engaging in terrorist activities.

A local agent, Infraloks Development Limited, also charged $ 2 million to facilitate the transaction, bringing the total to $ 8 million.
The state said that National Security did not have the money to finance the transaction. As a result, the NCA, which is responsible for monitoring the use of this type of equipment, has been invited to finance the project.
The officials withdrew $ 4 million from the NCA accounts and paid $ 1 million into the accounts of the Israeli company.
According to the state, the remaining $ 3 million was paid into the accounts of George Oppong, who was acting as a representative of local agents Infraloks Development Ltd.
According to the outgoing Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, Alhaji Osman signed the contract.
In the meantime, the case has been postponed to May 30th.
