Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is expected to launch on Tuesday the 70th anniversary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast in Accra.

In a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr. Kofi Yeboah, the Secretary General of the Association announced that the launching ceremony would be chaired by Mr. Daniel McKorley, President and CEO of the McDan Group of Companies.

According to the statement, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the GJA will be on the theme: "Democracy, freedom and independence of the media in Ghana: 70 years of contribution of the GJA.

Government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, past presidents and members of the GJA National Executive, senior and experienced journalists, representatives of Ghanaian companies and other dignitaries should be present.

As part of the day's activities, members of the National Planning Committee will oversee platinum anniversary activities that will be celebrated across the country.

The GJA would also take this opportunity to pay tribute to former President Kufuor for his unwavering support for the badociation and his efforts to promote freedom and independence of the media.

"Other natural and legal persons who have supported the GJA in particular and the media in general in recent decades will also be recognized later," the statement said.

"The GJA National Executive wishes to express its deep gratitude to the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast management for sponsoring the venue and to Ghana Television, TV3 and Atinka TV for agreeing to broadcast the ceremony live." he added.
