Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who has been overthrown, could appear in court next week to face charges of corruption, the acting attorney general said.
Alwaleed Sayed Ahmed made the announcement Saturday, two months after the military overthrow and arrest of al-Bashir during mbad protests against his 30-year-old autocratic regime.
The former president "will appear in court next week after charges of corruption and currency possession," said Ahmed without specifying a date.
The dismissal of the trial would be carried out after the expiration of a period of one week for objections, Ahmed said. He added that 41 other former officials were under investigation for bribery.
He did not name the other defendants but said that most of the charges were related to "possession of land".
The announcement of Ahmed took place a few days after the official SUNA news agency reported to al-Bashir several charges, including "possession of foreign funds, acquisition of alleged and illegal wealth" and order of the state of emergency in response to the February protests.

Al-Bashir, who has not been seen in public since his arrest in April, had already been charged last month for inciting and implicating the killing of protesters.
The prosecutors also ordered his interrogation on suspicion of money laundering and financing of "terrorism".
Shams, a Sudanese protester, told Al Jazeera that this action against al-Bashir was aimed at "diverting" from the recent bloody crackdown by the generals against a protest camp in front of the army headquarters in Khartoum. country's capital.

The alliance called for an independent and international investigation into the violent dispersal of the protest camp. The TMC has since admitted to having ordered the crackdown.
On Wednesday, the protest movement overturned the civil disobedience campaign after the TMC agreed to release "political prisoners," according to an Ethiopian envoy, who said the movement was ready to resume talks with the TMC.
Tibor Nagy, a US diplomat for Africa, said that outside mediation was needed to defuse the Sudan crisis. "The two sides have absolutely no confidence," Nagy said Friday after a visit to Khartoum.
He also supported the call for an "independent and credible investigation" into the crackdown on protesters, claiming that the stories of the victims he had met in Khartoum had been "heartbreaking".
The TMC confirmed 61 dead during the sit-in raid.
Shams al-Din Kabashi, spokesman for the military council, said on Thursday that there had been excesses and deviations from a plan drawn up after the council had ordered military leaders to suppress the sit- in.
Some officers were arrested as part of the raid and the results of an investigation will soon be announced, he said.
