20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment expressed their support for "Empire" star Jussie Smollett after it was reported that the actor and musician had been attacked in Chicago. On Thursday, Chicago police reportedly questioned two people of interest in the case, who would be the two men seen in a police surveillance video image shortly after the first report of the bombing. The men turned out to be Nigerian brothers, as the police executed a search warrant at their home on the same day. The investigators reportedly took away a laptop, shoes and bleach at home.
On January 29, it was reported that Smollett was badaulted by two men at around 2 am in E. North Water Block 300. Smollett had stated that the two men had shouted "racist and homophobic insults" before hitting him. pouring a chemical supposedly bleach and pbading a rope around his neck.
Also on Thursday, "Good Morning America" aired Smollett's first interview since the incident. "If I had said that it was a Muslim, a Mexican or a black, I think incredulants would have me much more supported," Smollett said during the interview.
