Foxconn, the world's largest maker of electronic gadgets, including the Apple iPhone, will begin a succession of leaders. Founder and President Terry Gou plans to withdraw from his daily activities.
"His wish is to withdraw from daily operations after developing and mentoring a new generation of talent to continue Foxconn's mission," the company said Tuesday. "As President, Mr. Gou will continue to provide strategic direction and direction."
The announcement comes at a difficult time for the company. Making more than half of its revenue from Apple, Foxconn revenues are the case of weak sales of the iPhone, especially in China. The group, whose revenues totaled NT $ 5.29 billion ($ 171.3 billion) last year, also faces a more general slowdown in the technology sector, as demand for phones smart reaches a peak.
Foxconn did not specify when Mr. Gou would withdraw from his daily duties or resign from his position as president of the company. Reuters reported on Monday, quoting Gou, that shareholders would be informed of the changes being contemplated at the annual general meeting of Hon Hai, the parent group listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and that a board of directors will be in charge. The administration should then confirm the decision.
Mr. Gou, 68, has been in charge of the company since its founding in 1974.
